General Information about the Rappahannock Watershed (From September 2006 305(b) Report, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality) The Rappahannock Basin is located in the northeastern portion of Virginia. The Basin's major tributaries include the Hazel River, Thornton River, Mountain Run, Rapidan River, Robinson River, Cat Point Creek, and the Corotoman River. The topography of the Basin changes from steep to flat as it flows from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. About 51% of the basin is forest; 36% is cropland and pasture and 6% is urban.
