VA SOS Future

Despite funding shortages, VA SOS is committed to providing opportunities for citizens to become VA SOS monitors.  We will continue to research new methods for volunteer monitors and continue to provide quality assurance services including our database of water quality information.

Please review the information below  how VA SOS can assist your organization in meeting your monitoring, outreach and education goals.

I.  Your organization wants to start, maintain, or expand your monitoring program.  Contact Stacey Brown at 804-615-5036 or stacey @ vasos .org to request a visioning  meeting

II.  Your organization meets with VA SOS to plan a one-year monitoring program.  During this meeting we will identify the watershed to be monitored, the number of sites to monitor, how many monitors are needed, and the number of data events for the year.  We will also determine what type of monitoring your organization wishes to accomplish (biological, habitat, physical, etc.).  This meeting will also explore the need to host community workshops including stream schools, clean water act training, and teachers workshops.

III.  VA SOS will translate the vision into actual costs

IV.  VA SOS, with assistance from your organization, will find a financial sponsor for your program

V.  VA SOS will generate a map with the monitoring scheme

VI.  When funding has been obtained, VA SOS and your organization will have a plan development meeting to produce the monitoring scheme.  This will include the number of training sessions, certification sessions, and quality assurance sessions.

VII.  VA SOS and your organization will implement the monitoring plan.
