General Information about the Clinch/Powell Watershed (From October 2002 305(b) Report, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality)

The Clinch/Powell Watershed flows southwest to the Tennessee River in Tennessee. They eventually empty into the Gulf of Mexica via the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. This Basin spans three physiographic provinces: the Cumberland Plateau, Valley and Ridge, and the Blue Ridge. The Cumberland Plateau is characterized as rugged, with mountainous terrain and steep valleys. The Valley and Ridge Province consists of parallel valleys and ridges running northeast to southwest. The Blue Ridge Province is more plateau-like, with no single, prominent ridge. Approximately 48% of the Basin is forested with cropland and pasture making up 39.7%.
