We prefer
that all VA SOS volunteer data be sent to us so we can compile it into
one central database. It is much easier for groups such as state agencies,
Soil and Water Conservation Districts, or other interested parties to
request information from one centralized location, rather than from all
the individual monitors across the state.
Data
can be submitted to the Virginia Save Our Streams program in three ways:
hard copy through the mail or electronically via
our online data entry system or by
e-mail. In order to submit
by e-mail, your computer must be able to read a Microsoft Excel file.
Before sending
your data to us, please be sure it includes the following information:

The date, including the year, when
the sample was collected
•
Specific location information that would enable us to locate your site
on a map, or latitude and longitude information. (Ex. Mr. Jones farm on
Rt. 1 is not specific enough, as we would need to be familiar with where
Mr. Jones's property is in order to locate this site. A better way to
specify location would be to indicate the mileage from the nearest road
crossing, being sure to indicate the direction you are traveling from
the intersection).
•
The name of a certified monitor who was present
at the sampling event. If there was no certified monitor involved in the
sampling, please indicate such so we know who can use your data.
•
Please also include the name and contact information (phone number or
e-mail) of someone who could answer any questions we may have about your
data.

Data
Send hardcopy data through the mail to the following address:

Please be sure to always keep a hardcopy of your data in case it gets
lost in the mail.
Electronic
Data
Please download the Excel file listed below that have been set up for
easy transition into our database. Please follow the example when entering
your data. Save your file, and then attach it to an e-mail to Stacey
Brown at stacey at vasos.org.

Set up
to calculate all metrics for you! Just enter the number of organisms
you collected in the appropriate spots.
